M+, Asia’s first global museum of contemporary visual culture located in the West Kowloon Cultural District, is dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron in partnership with TFP Farrells and Arup, the M+ building is composed of an expansive podium and a strikingly slender tower that fuse into the shape of an upside-down ‘T’. The south facade of the tower is a dynamic, evolving LED media display screen.
Overlooking the Victoria Harbour, the M+ Facade lights up nightly as one of the largest media facades in the world. The M+ Facade presents commissioned artworks, moving image works from the M+ Collection, museum messages and branding animations. This enormous light-powered canvas enlivens the Hong Kong skyline as a key point of connection with the museum’s audiences.
